Hello

Welcome to all our new members and thanks to all of you for your continued interest and support. As always, I am making a plea for you to send in word of your own accomplishments in Open Competition, as well as word of any other Morgans and Part Morgans that you hear of competiting in Open disciplines. Spread the word of this newsletter organization, and feel free to give them my email as a contact and/or if they've any questions.

I was recently appointed to the position of Open Competition Editor for the Simply Morgan magazine (www.simplymorgan.com), and I'd like to ask everyone to send me any articles, stories, etc., that you have or would like to see published in that magazine.

Thank you and congratulations to all those out there competiting with their Morgans and Part Morgans.

Up in Maine, Janine Hawkins and her daughter Emily have enjoyed a variety of successful competitions with their homebred mare, Little Oaks First Lady, aka "Boo". Boo and Emily have done quite well in Showmanship and Walk-Trot and Equitation classes and Janine and Boo have also done very well in Carriage classes at Open shows throughout the area.

CARRIAGE:

Alan Aulson of Georgetown,MA, won the carriage racing exhibition on Saturday, May 31 at the 107th Devon Horse Show & Country Fair in Devon, PA. Alan was driving his black Morgan pair, Meddo's Chief George, a 12-year-old gelding, and River Run Legend, a 17-year-old gelding. These two geldings, when not matched as a pair, serve as the leaders in Alan's four-in-hand of black Morgans.

--------------------

Awesome, aka "Smokey", (Primetime x Tara's Echo), another black Morgan gelding, owned by Alice Cromer of Chatham, VA, was Single Horse Champion at the Oak Hill Pleasure Driving Show. The Single Horse division was large as always, and had many talented horses entered in it plus, this was Alice and Smokey's first major event in 2 yrs, so their win is all the more impressive.

BROMONT CDE:

The Bromont International Combined Driving Event, (Quebec), May 22 to May 25 was yet another showcase for the Morgan, once again solidifying the breed's standing as a premier Carriage and CDE horse. Lisa Singer, driving LR Ami Bengali and Count On Me, was in second place after Dressage, just a fraction of points behind the leader. On the Marathon, Count was matched with the veteran member of Mimi Thorington's pair, Avalon Avant Guard, and they turned in a great performance to hold on to their second place ranking following this phase. A strong showing in Cones put Lisa and the Morgans in the lead to stay, winning the FEI Advanced Pairs Class!

In the Advanced Singles class, Gaitwood Lightwing and Fred Merriam earnedfirst place and had the best Dressage score not only of the FEI Advanced Division, (out of all classes -- singles, pairs, teams -- ponies and horses), but for the entire event as well. Nancy Johnson and Canequin's Lookout were second in this division. Scott Monroe and Bethesda After Dark, won the award for the best marathon in the FEI Advanced Division, but with some penalties in the Cones phase, finished 4th in the division.

Courage To Lead, owned by Bev Lesher and driven by Suzy Stafford won thePreliminary Single Pony division. This combination also garnered the Best Conditioned award as well as Freedman Harness of Toronto's $500 gift certificate for being the CAN-AM Tournament winner in the Preliminary division.

HUNTERS:

Mythic Galetia, (Mythic Aladdin x Hollybrook Natasha), bred by CeAnn Shipley and now owned and shown by Chris Aikins of PA, has been turning heads on the Open PA Hunter Breeding Show Circuit. "Tia" currently is first in the standings for 4 and over mares and second for amateur handler. Tia is apparently making quite a possitive impression on the people who have seen her, many of whom didn't think a Morgan could make a nice hunter.

EVENTING/JUMPERS:

Out on the West Coast, Cynthia Bayles two Eventers continue their impressive ways. Roseridge Johnny Reb is an AMHA Gold Medallion titlist and at 14.3, competing against much larger TB's and Warmbloods, his accomplishments are all the more impressive. Rebel has 6 yrs of Eventing experience, 2 of those years being at the Intermediate level. At the June, Hood River Show, and "A" Rated Hunter/Jumper competition, Rebel once again more then held his own, taking a very impressive 2nd in the Jumping Derby for the second year in a row, and also taking home 2 other seconds, a third and a fourth place! His stablemate, Lydia, was very good at the Inavale Horse Trials, going clean stadium and clean cross country and ended up 10th in the Novice Division. Lydia was also 10th at a different recognized event in early May. Quite impressive for both these Morgans. Cynthia has Lydia's 3yr old filly, Alouette, sired by a Dutch Warmblood grandson of Concorde (who won a Gold medal in jumping in Barcelona), started undersaddle and coming along nicely.
